UGA Geology majors visited the KaMin kaolin mining operations in Gordon, GA. With the help of KaMin geologist, Eric Parrish, the class was provided a core specially retrieved for them, which penetrated a Miocene-Eocene- Cretaceous sequence.  Students sampled different sedimentary facies and looked at different alteration zones.  This particular kaolin is a key component in making automobile catalytic converters.
