Image: The University of Georgia is accepting applications for two 9-month, tenure-track appointments offered at the rank of Assistant Professor. Both positions are joint appointments between the Department of Geology (https://geology.uga.edu/) and the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory (SREL; https://srel.uga.edu/). Teaching responsibilities for both positions will include an introductory geology course and undergraduate/graduate courses in the research specialty. The anticipated start date for both positions is 8/1/2022. Appointment 1: The successful candidate will be stationed at the UGA main campus in Athens, GA with a focus in geobiology. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in geosciences or a related discipline at the time of appointment. This opportunity is open to applicants with a strong background in subsurface microbiological processes. The candidate will use geochemical and molecular techniques as their primary approach to address the interaction between biota and earth materials. Appointment 2: The successful candidate will be stationed at SREL, with a focus in subsurface contaminant transport. SREL is located at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site near Aiken, South Carolina (https://www.srs.gov/general/srs-home.html). Applicants must possess a Ph.D. degree in geology, chemistry, environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related discipline. Applicants with backgrounds in shallow earth geophysics, geochemistry, rock physics, hydrogeology, or urban environmental science are encouraged to apply. Research focus is flexible within the general framework of applying remediation strategies minimizing subsurface pollution and management plans ensuring conformance with current geological standards and policies.
