M.S. Student, Graduate Research Assistant, Structural Geology & Planetary Geology

Hi! My name is Jack (or JJ) and I am a Master's student in the Department of Geology at UGA. I am originally from Tampa, FL, and received Bachelor's degrees in Geology and Astronomy from the University of Florida. My background is primarily in planetary geology, having done astrobiology work related to Mars for my undergraduate research and now working on research related to the structural geology of Mars for my graduate studies here at UGA. Outside of research, I love hiking and listening to audiobooks. I am currently listening to the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown and the Remembrance of Earth's Past series by Liu Cixin. I also love talking about all things geology! I am primarily interested in contractional tectonics on Earth and other planetary bodies, planetary surface processes and habitability, metamorphic petrology related to high-pressure metamorphism and metavolcanic rocks, and renewable energy resources/sustainability, such as geothermal energy and carbon sequestration.

Education:

B.S. Geology, University of Florida, 2025

B.A. Astronomy, University of Florida, 2025

Research Interests:

Structural Geology, Planetary Surface Processes, Planetary Habitability, Metamorphic Petrology, Renewable Energy Resources
