Image: AGU: "Earth Sciences are the Model Sciences of the Anthropocene" Dr. Paul Schroeder has co-authored an article in the American Geophysical Union’s Perspectives of Earth and Space Sciences that points the emerging importance of Earth Sciences in society today. We are pleased to see that UGA Geology’s Georgia First is at the core of this message addressing issues of water, sustainable energy, critical minerals, natural hazards, and plans for engineering ways into future. Earth scientists have special opportunities and responsibilities to accelerate our understanding of Earth's changes that are transforming our most remarkable home. UGA Geology faculty and students continue working from the grass roots in support of this mission. Abstract: After 4.5 billion years as an evolving and dynamic planet, the Earth continues to evolve but with human-altered dynamics. Earth scientists have special opportunities and responsibilities to accelerate our understanding of Earth's changes that are transforming our most remarkable home. Key Points: Human beings are changing Earth's systems from local to global scales in ways that are not well understood, quantified, or modeled There is dire need to prioritize the Earth sciences and engineering to advance environmental policy for a more sustainable future Type of News/Audience: Department News Research Areas: Environmental Geosciences Read More: American Geophysical Union’s - Perspectives of Earth and Space Sciences
