Friday, February 24 2023, 4:10pm Geology Colloquium - GG Building 200A or via Zoom Colloquium Speaker: Amy Ryan Bio: Amy is an experimental volcanologist and uses high-temperature deformation experiments to explore the connections between magma properties, rheology and volcanic eruptive behavior. Her past research topics include the dynamics and timescales of sintering within volcanic conduits, the rheology and outgassing behavior of bubbly melts, and the temperature-dependent solubility of water in rhyolitic melts. She received her BA from Colorado College, and her MSc and PhD from the University of British Columbia. Amy is currently an NSF Postdoctoral Fellow in the Rock and Mineral Physics Laboratory at the University of Minnesota and, in the fall of 2023, will be a Post-doctoral Research Associate at Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich, Germany.
