Jeff passed away peacefully at home on December 2, 2019, as he lost his battle to brain cancer at the age of 71.  Jeff was a licensed professional geologist in NC, SC, TN, and TX with geology degrees from the University of Minnesota, Duluth (B.A.); The University of Texas at Austin (M.A.); and The University of Georgia, Athens (Ph.D.). He was an AIPG Certified Professional Geologist, and Adjunct Associate Professor and member of the graduate faculty, North Carolina State University. Before retirement, Jeff was a Senior Geologist for Energy and Mineral Resources with the North Carolina Geological Survey and the lead scientist for the State’s Mesozoic basins’ natural gas study. Previously he worked at Arco Oil and Gas, and for various mineral exploration companies throughout the United States, and portions of Brazil and Canada. Jeff was a Fellow of the Geological Society of America. He was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration. Jeff was a member of the Carolina Geological Society for over 32 years.  Jeff was always a staunch supporter of the UGA Geology department, particularly through his ability to network his connections back to students for internships.  Donations have been received in Jeff’s name to the UGA Gilles and Bernadette Allard Geology Award Fund, which supports field-related research expenses for graduate students. The UGA Geology Department is most thankful to these donors and for Jeff’s contributions in the field of Geosciences.
