Saturday, October 31 2020, 4pm Live virtual via zoom / Streamed via GGS Facebook Special Event Message from the Georgia Geological Society Save the Date - GGS 2020 Virtual Field Trip Let’s get together virtually on Halloween, like the ghouls and goblins that we are, to share spooky stories from our favorite outcrops. We are asking about a dozen of our members to head out to the field near you and make a 10 to 12-minute video explaining what you do and don’t know about the geology of your favorite rock haunt. Posing eerie questions is strongly encouraged. The hope is to share a little virtual comradery while learning a few things that we may not have known from local experts all over the state. Maybe we’ll even identify a few great places or topics for in-person field trips when things get back to normal. We’ll assemble the videos and then watch and discuss on Zoom, Halloween afternoon, Saturday, October 31 from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. EDT. Active GGS members will need to register (details to come) to access the Zoom meeting. But we will stream the virtual trip out to anyone who wants to watch via the GGS Facebook page. If you’re interested in sharing your favorite outcrop or geological site, please e-mail your intent to submit a video to Scott Harris at scott.harris@fernbank.edu You don’t have to be a video artist; we’ll be glad to help with the technical end if you have a great idea. Indications of interest are requested ASAP, but no later than October 11. Final videos will need to be submitted by October 24. We hope everyone is healthy and safe and can join in a little education and fun as we head toward the homestretch of this crazy year. Georgia Geological Society (GGS)
