Friday, October 14 2022, 4:10pm Geology Colloquium - GG Building 200A or via Zoom Colloquium About the Speaker: Lukas Baumgartner obtained his PhD at the University of Basel in Earth sciences. He worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the Johns Hopkins University (Maryland), before joining the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a professor for 8 years. After moving to the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany for four years, he started in 2001 at the University of Lausanne. He researches and teaches in the domains of metamorphic petrology. He has worked for over 30 years in the Alpine orogeny, in the Basin and Range of Utah and California, as well as contact metamorphism in the Torres del Paine and Fitz Roy complexes in Patagonia. He is interested in mineral growth, phase petrology, geochronology, the geochemistry of water-rock interaction, and interpreting metamorphic pressure-temperature conditions and their duration in mountain building.
